My wife found an xy, but I solved it with no advanced techniques as all. In fact I told her that it must have been a mistake to classify it as a VH when it should have been marked Easy.

Indeed; I do like these puzzles where the basics clear away quickly, leaving me to concentrate on whatever advanced techniques there may be.

I spotted an x-wing - not enough to solve the puzzle on ...

A very nice puzzle, I thought; basics solve most of it, and I saw the xy-wing without tearing out too much of my hair or losing too much of my crossword time later!

I agree - I had exactly the same result, except that in my case it was the second cup of tea that I didn't get! Very Happy

I didn't see the x-wing, so went for the UR instead.

Easy, but satisfying!

A very straightforward one this time; solves a long way without any advanced techniques at all, and then an XYZ (on 4,6,7) and an XY (on 2,6,7) are all that are needed to solve it.

I can't imagine ...

Hi Crunched,

There is an xyz wing in box 9. After that, you need to do a fair bit of cleaning up again. Then finally you will find an xy wing that solves the puzzle. Took me about 40 minutes - a lo ...

It certainly took a little time, but was fun in the end.

Perhaps we need a new category beyone 'VH' for these puzzzles that need multiple advanced techniques. Can I suggest Death By Sudoku? Smile

Indeed, quite a straightforward puzzle. At first I thought that the x-y-z wasn't going to take me very far, but a little more basic clearance solved the thing in no time at all. Smile

An interesting one today - I used four different xy-wings (three of them on 1,3,8 and the other on 1,4,7), but I suspect that there are quicker ways of getting there.

Any offers? Smile

Actually I thought that it solved very quickly right up to the point where something more advanced was needed; indeed, I thought it might work out without any 'dodges' at all.

In the end it turned ...

I thought this was going to be a stinker, but in the end the simple xy on 3,7,8 (pivot at R2C3) broke it, though it took me a little while to realise it and I thought there must be something else in t ...

The 4,8 UR broke it for me - a very quick solution once I'd got there, but the build-up to it took a little time. Smile

Actually the xy on 2,4,7 is all that I needed to break the puzzle (Pivot on R7C9).

It was a little slower to start than Monday's, but a good puzzle all the same.

There's a simple xy on 1,5,8 (pivot at R4C3) which I think is all that's needed to break it, though there's also an x-wing on 3 which I found first but probably isn't really needed.

Yes indeed, a v ...
