I'm not sure what level of difficulty this forum prefers. I also note that most puzzles are from non-member sources. I hope submitting my own puzzle won't be offensive, and that it's level of difficulty is of interest to the manual solvers.

This would be called a VH puzzle here. The daily puzzles are in 4 categories. "Hard" puzzles need basics only (without quads), "Very Hard" can also need x-, xy-, xyz-wings.

Since the puzzles come with random level, sometimes there is a thirst for VH's.

This DAJ was more interesting than many of the VH's posted here. Keep them coming.

A Jellyfish is there, if you want to skip the UR or XYZ-Wing approach.

 | 3 1 . | 2 7 . | 5 . . |

 | . . 8 | . . 3 | 2 . 5 |

Thanks for the tip, but I'd rather have a root canal without novocaine than go searching for jellyfish. Laughing A UR and Remote Pairs did the trick.

On the first one, I used an X- and XYZ-Wing and a hidden UR.

Since we have members with varying levels of solving ability, I don't think we can generalize.

Marty, I seemed to have used the identical sequence on the second puzzle and also on the first except I used a kite rather than a x-wing.

Danny, I also enjoyed both puzzles but would generally prefer to have a unique thread for each puzzle.

I appreciate the positive feedback. I'm trying to determine who in the forum might be interested in puzzles that don't require chains. It is not easy to select puzzles since my technique hierarchy may lead me to believe that a puzzle is difficult, whereas someone else's technique hierarchy may crack a puzzle with little effort.

I'm still checking to see if I my puzzles are of interest to the members. For now, I'd like to keep my puzzles limited to this thread. On that note ...

Code:
 +-----------------------+
 | . . . | 3 . 8 | . 5 . |
 | . . . | 6 . 7 | 1 . 9 |
 | . . . | . 1 9 | 2 3 . |
 |-------+-------+-------|
 | 1 8 . | 7 9 . | . . . |
 | . . 6 | 1 . . | . . . |
 | 9 3 7 | . . 5 | . . 1 |
 |-------+-------+-------|
 | . 9 8 | . . . | 5 . . |
 | 6 . 1 | . . . | . . . |
 | . 2 . | . . 1 | . . 8 |
 +-----------------------+   # DAJ Set 1: Puzzle 32

BTW: I also have puzzles that (probably) require chains.

This one is easy, though it would be rated "too hard" by the local online solver.
It has a one-step solution with at least 7 techniques:
BUG, remote pair, skyscraper, w-wing, kite, empty rectangle, finned x-wing.

Daj (I presume your name is Danny since Ted called you that),

Please reconsider Ted's suggestion about one puzzle per thread. There'll be no problem determining the level of interest based on the number and nature of the replies.

We're not concerned about the number of threads.

Thanks,
Marty
