There are Ers with extended pincers (I think that’s the term) using <8> in C2 and the extra pincers in B2 and B9 to remove <8> from R3C9. That leads to another Er on <8>, an x-wing and an xy wing. Though I never find the extended pincer thing satisfying – seems too close to trial and error.

Craig,

Your first elimination is also a Finned X-Wing in r17. And, your ER path can also be seen as multi-coloring, with the weak link in r2.

I can't find the second ER on <8>. However, there is a 56 W-Wing with conjugate <6>s in r2 that eliminates <5> from r9c9 and solves the puzzle.

I used W-Wings on two different pairs of 58 cells which led to a BUG+1 pattern. However, there was also available an XY-Wing Chain, 58-56-56-56-68. I would assume the latter overlaps Asellus' W-Wing.
