Lots of multiple paths home. Also a direct route with that old reliable, the xy-wing.

I wanted to see if there was anything there with W-Wings, and there was. It eliminated nothing but a pincer transport did it, essentially doing the same thing as the XY-Wing. There's also a three-box DP in boxes 789, but I don't think that took things very far. |

There's a skyscraper on <7> but I don't see how to eschew the xy wings -of which I see at least two. |

The 458 xyz-wing jumped out at me before I was even done with basics. It solves the puzzle in one step. The 158 xy-wing is another 1 stepper. |

With apologies to Norm and the others trying to help me grasp this xy wing stuff...
I am still missing something basic. Here is as far as I was able to get:
3 | 4 | 9 | 6 | 7 | 15 | 15 | 8 | 2
2 | 1 | 57 | 3 | 458 | 458 | 456 | 9 |4567
57 | 6 | 8 | 49 |1459 | 2 | 3 | 17 | 457
9 | 2 | 1 | 8 | 3 | 7 | 45 | 6 | 45
8 | 5 | 4 | 1 | 2 | 6 | 7 | 3 | 9
6 | 7 | 3 | 49 | 459 | 45 | 8 | 2 | 1
17 | 3 | 2 | 5 | 168 | 18 | 9 | 4 | 67
1457 | 8 | 567| 27 | 146 | 9 | 126 | 17 | 3
147 | 9 | 67 | 27 | 146 | 3 | 126 | 5 | 8
Is there one of the XY wings between r1c6 {15}, r2c3 {57}, and r3c8 {17}? If this is one, what does it tell me to do next?
I appreciate your patience.
Thanks!
(Edited by Marty to include grid).

Chesterdad,
I was exactly where you were in the puzzle. In box 8 there is a pointing pair of 4's that will eliminate the 4's in c5, boxes 2 & 5.
Now you will have a 15 pair in box 2 that is part of a 158 wing (along with the 58 pair in box 2 and the 18 pair in box . The 15 pair will be either a 1 or a 5 both of which will eliminate the 8 in r2c6. This will make r2c5 an 8. That should solve the puzzle for you.
I have a hard time finding the wings and usually end up reading this board to figure them out. |

Somehow the guy with the sunglasses ended up in my post. It's supposed to read "the 18 pair in box 8." |

Sometimes combinations of characters for smileys end up like in your post. To prevent, check the disable smilies option under the message box. |

Swando,
Where is the 178 wing? Can I see it on Chesterdad's grid? |
