Just curious to see some solutions if anyone's interested in doing it. It would be embarrassing to tell how many moves it took me, all of them ordinary, except for an extremely rare (for me) jellyfish.

Code:

+-------+-------+-------+
| . . . | . 3 . | . . . |
| . 2 7 | 6 . 5 | 9 3 . |
| . 5 . | 1 . 2 | . 8 . |
+-------+-------+-------+
| . 4 8 | 3 . 6 | 1 2 . |
| 3 . . | . . . | . . 8 |
| . 9 1 | 4 . 8 | 3 6 . |
+-------+-------+-------+
| . 3 . | 8 . 7 | . 9 . |
| . 1 2 | 9 . 3 | 8 5 . |
| . . . | . 2 . | . . . |

Marty,

You are aware that BB publishes not only the solution, but their explanation of the path to get there?

Actually, Keith, I wasn't aware of that. I never clicked on the "Show answer."

Thanks.

Another three step solution is;
Quote:
Kraken x-wing 4 in r28c19 with fin in r8c5 deletes r1c1, r7c9, r79c1,
x-wing 7 r59c28,
xy-wing 457 with pivot 57 in r6c9.

'---------------------'---------------------'---------------------'

two stepper,
mixed w-wing strong link on 1 in row 9 connects {1,9}r5c6 and {1,4}r1c8,
so now the 9 and the 4 must be true. extend the 9 up to{4,9}r1c6, now the (4)r1c6 is true or the (4)r1c8 is true.
this eliminates the 4's in r1c13

after the dust settles the xy-wing {4,5,7} solves it, eliminates the 4 from r7c7

-----

just one note on the mixed w-wing since there seems to be a desire for some explanation of terms.

the normal w-wing connects two identical bi-value cells via a strong link on one of the values.
(B=A) - A = A - (A=B); the B's become pincers.

the "mixed w-wing" substitues one of the end B candidates with another candidate I will call C.
(B=A) - A = A - (A=C)
at this point, you can see that either B is true or C is true.
If a bi-value cell {BC} exists that see's the {AC} cell, then by extension the B's would again become pincers.
(B=A) - A = A - (A=C) - (C=B); B's are pincers.

Code:
w-wing;        (B=A) - A = A - (A=B);         B's are pincers

"mixed w-wing" (B=A) - A = A - (A=C) - (C=B); B's are pincers

the example    (4=1) - 1 = 1 - (1=9) - (9=4); 4's are pincers

I wouldn't claim that this type of mixed w-wing is very common but I have noticed Marty and Asellus impliment the logic in previously posted puzzles.
The key is recognizing which candidates can be true once the relationship is made between the bi-value cells and the strongly linked candidates.
