The August 29 DB is a challenge. Maybe Norm will find a single bullet, but I needed a double-barreled shot gun.

A Solution: color in 4, then four xy-wings: 348, 389, 389, 248.

Enjoyable puzzle.

My four steps were:

Quote:
XYZ (348), ER (4), XY (384) with pincer transport and W (48)

maybe if I give it more time I can find the silver bullet.
for now I like the coloring on 4
which leads to
Code:
.------------------.------------------.------------------.
| 1    *3478 *347  | 5     3489  389  | 2     34    6    |
| 9    *348   6    |3-8    1     2    | 5     34    7    |
| 2     34    5    | 7     34    6    | 1     8     9    |
:------------------+------------------+------------------:
| 6     1237  2379 | 39    5     4    | 37    129   8    |
| 4     1237  2379 | 6     389   1389 | 37    129   5    |
| 8     5     39   | 2     7     139  | 6     19    4    |
:------------------+------------------+------------------:
| 3     6    *24   |*48    28    5    | 9     7     1    |
| 7     49    1    | 349   6     39   | 8     5     2    |
| 5     29    8    | 1     29    7    | 4     6     3    |
'------------------'------------------'------------------'

(8)r2c2 = (8-7)r1c2 = (7-4)r1c3 = (4)r7c3 - (4=8)r7c4; r2c4 <> 8

I attacked the 4's. First, a skyscraper, then two XY-wings plus pincer coloring on both. Skyscraper R38:
Code:
+----------------+----------------+----------------+
| 1    3478 347  | 5    3489 389  | 2    34   6    |
| 9    348  6    |3-48  1    2    | 5    34   7    |
| 2    34b  5    | 7    34B  6    | 1    8    9    |
+----------------+----------------+----------------+
| 6    1237 2379 | 39   5    4    | 37   129  8    |
| 4    1237 2379 | 6    389  1389 | 37   129  5    |
| 8    5    39   | 2    7    139  | 6    19   4    |
+----------------+----------------+----------------+
| 3    6    24   | 48  2-48  5    | 9    7    1    |
| 7    49a  1    | 349A 6    39   | 8    5    2    |
| 5    29   8    | 1    29   7    | 4    6    3    |
+----------------+----------------+----------------+
Then, an XY-wing with coloring:
Code:
+----------------+----------------+----------------+
| 1    3478 347# | 5   3-489 389  | 2    34   6    |
| 9    348  6    | 38*  1    2    | 5    34   7    |
| 2   3-4   5    | 7    34*  6    | 1    8    9    |
+----------------+----------------+----------------+
| 6    1237 2379 | 39   5    4    | 37   129  8    |
| 4    1237 2379 | 6    389  1389 | 37   129  5    |
| 8    5    39   | 2    7    139  | 6    19   4    |
+----------------+----------------+----------------+
| 3    6    24#  | 48*  28   5    | 9    7    1    |
| 7    49   1    | 349  6    39   | 8    5    2    |
| 5    29   8    | 1    29   7    | 4    6    3    |
+----------------+----------------+----------------+
and the other XY-wing with coloring
Code:
+----------------+----------------+----------------+
| 1    478  47#  | 5    389  389  | 2   3-4   6    |
| 9   -48   6    | 38*  1    2    | 5    34*  7    |
| 2    3    5    | 7    4    6    | 1    8    9    |
+----------------+----------------+----------------+
| 6    127  2379 | 39   5    4    | 37   129  8    |
| 4    127  2379 | 6    389  1389 | 37   129  5    |
| 8    5    39   | 2    7    139  | 6    19   4    |
+----------------+----------------+----------------+
| 3    6    24#  | 48*  28   5    | 9    7    1    |
| 7    49   1    | 349  6    39   | 8    5    2    |
| 5    29   8    | 1    29   7    | 4    6    3    |
+----------------+----------------+----------------+

My three steps were an ER on 4 with hinge in box7 and strong link in row 3 (which was the same as the skyscraper),
xy-wing 38-4 with pivot 38 in r2c4 and the 4 in pincer at r7c4 transported to r8c2 via r8c4,
w-wing 48 with pincers in r2c2 & r7c4 and strong link 4 in col3.

And yes, a nice puzzle.
