This is a Vanhegan Fiendish, #5-1574367, rated 2.4.1.2. After three ERs, a Hidden UR and coloring on 8 I hit the brick wall.

Any moves available for someone who's not into AICs, ALS's, etc?

Thanks Danny. Despite the fact that I looked at every row and column for X-Wings, I just flat-out missed the one you pointed out. Evil or Very Mad Embarassed

I used five steps to complete the puzzle including extensions on a w-wing; never determined if all were necessary.

x-wing on 1 (as noted by Danny),

sashimi x-wing 4 in r14c68 deletes 4 in r3c8,

Type 4 UR 47 in r56c28 with strong link on 4 in row6 deletes 7 in r5c8,

w-wing 48 in r3c4 and r4c8 with a grouped(?) strong link 4 in row5:
r5c2=4 => r6c2<>4 =>r6c8=4 => r4c8=8,
r5c4=4 => r3c4=8
r5c8=4 => r4c8=8
This is a useless w-wing but by extending the 8 in r4c8 we find gold: r4c8=8 => r8c8<>8 => r8c6=8; thus, r13c6<>8,

after cleanup, a BUG+1 condition sets r7c9=8 and completes the puzzle.

I am assuming that my extensions satisfy Marty's conditions.

Ted

Extensions (I call them transports) do, Sashimis don't. Laughing
