 | 137   9     6     | 48    48    5     | 17    2     37    |
 *-----------------------------------------------------------*
(3)r3c8=(3)r3c9-(3=7)r9c9-(7=1)r9c7-(1=4)r8c8-(4)r8c7=(4)r2c7-(4=5)r1c9-(5)r7c9=(5-3)r7c8=(3)r3c8 => r3c8=3

I hope my coding is right. Good puzzle! Very Happy

a little shorter

Code:
+-----------------+------------+-------------------+
| 134  -5(1)  34  | 6   7   8  | 2      9     (45) |
| 467  25     247 | 3   9   1  | 67(4)  4567  8    |
| 8    67     9   | 5   2   4  | 167    1367  367  |
+-----------------+------------+-------------------+
| 9    678    5   | 2   48  67 | 3      467   1    |
| 467  3      47  | 1   5   67 | 9      8     2    |
| 2    678    1   | 48  3   9  | 5      467   467  |
+-----------------+------------+-------------------+
| 37   4      378 | 9   1   2  | 678    3567  3567 |
| 5    2(1)   28  | 7   6   3  | 18(4)  (14)  9    |
| 137  9      6   | 48  48  5  | 17     2     37   |
+-----------------+------------+-------------------+

(5=4)r1c9 - (4)r2c7 = (4)r8c7 - (4=1)r8c8 - (1)r8c2 = (1)r1c2; r1c2 <> 5

Dan, I plugged your chain into xsudo and it works!
this is what it looks like.
notice that you could have stopped your chain at r7c8.

I'm not familiar with Xsudo or its graphics, but I'll be darned if I can find this link displayed in your representation of Dan's chain.

Cool! Very Happy I down loaded xsudo but have not yet figured out how to use it. Nice graphics!

yes, for some reason, Xsudo likes to link up the chain in a different way. and since Dan's chain is so long, Xsudo is finding a reduced version of the chain.
so here is what is happening...
I am using the T in the "CAT" at the top to plug in the chain.

and this is what the chain looks like before the program is told to look for eliminations.

then you can either click on the A in CAT, which will link up the chain automatically, or go into the "tools" menu and click on "find all eliminations"

and this is what happens.

now notice that the link from (3)r3c8=(3)r3c9 is made useless...
and the link (3)r3c9 - (3)r9c9 is removed...
Xsudo basically wrote the chain with what it thought was the best reduced version, I guess. I am still getting use to the program also. I am not sure how to show an elimination without the program actively searching for one.

Dan's chain is shortened to...
(3=7)r9c9-(7=1)r9c7-(1=4)r8c8-(4)r8c7=(4)r2c7-(4=5)r1c9-(5)r7c9=(5)r7c8
and if the chain started from (7=1)r9c7 then the 7 is eliminated from r7c8
and the short chain (7=1)r9c7 - (4=1)r8c8 - (4)r7c7 = (4)r2c3
eliminates 7 from r2c3.
Shocked all of that in Dan's big chain

I can always turn a one-stepper into a three-stepper and this was no exception. There was an ER on 3, then a DP on 34-37-47 set r1c3 = 3. A W-Wing on 14 with pincer transport finished it off.
