Type 1 UR (17), ER (9), which was probably the skyscraper mentioned above, and XY-Wing (237). |

Another three step with a small variation.
type 1 UR 17,
AIC found by extending the vertex of a potential xy-wing: (4=9)r4c8 - (9=1)r4c7 - (1)r4c5 = (1-3)r5c4 = (3)r79c4 - (3=4)r7c5; r7c8<>4
xy-wing -237

Unfortunately, yes.
I seem to have run into a batch of puzzles with little opportunity for variation in the solution path. I'm not sure if it's related to the short number of steps or the lack of reasonable alternatives for each step. However, if a puzzle has too many alternatives, then a person can get bogged down with unproductive eliminations.
I have a small number of puzzles left in each of my current puzzle files. I'm also in the midst of tweaking my (very limited) puzzle generator. Maybe the next bach of puzzles will allow more originality!
