Two steps are better than four. (no xy's in sight)
Code:
skyscraper 7
 *--------------------------------------------------------------------*
 | 1      4      5679   | 2      57     8      |a357   (3)569  56     |
 | 2      5789   5789   | 3      57     6      | 1      589    4      |
 | 78     5678   3      | 9      4      1      |b578    568    2      |
 |----------------------+----------------------+----------------------|
 | 6      78     78     | 4      1      3      | 25     25     9      |
 | 5      12     12     | 8      6      9      | 4      7      3      |
 | 9      3      4      | 5      2      7      | 6      1      8      |
 |----------------------+----------------------+----------------------|
 | 4      1568   1568   | 7      3      2      | 9      568    56     |
 |d38     2568   2568   | 1      9      4      |c2358  e23568  7      |
 | 37     279    279    | 6      8      5      | 23     4      1      |
 *--------------------------------------------------------------------*
(3)r1c8 = (3-7)r1c7 = (7-8)r3c7 = (8)r8c7 - (8=3)r8c1 - (3)r8c8 = (3)r1c8 => r1c8=3

I get to here after your Skyscraper and X-Wing. I don't see an XY-Wing.

Ouch! I had nine moves, including four ERs, plus X-Wing, Kite, Coloring, Hidden UR and XYZ-Wing. But I had fun with it.

Danny,

Normally I provide more detail about the steps I make, but I was in a hurry and failed to do so on this post. I remember when I was first learning about VH and VH+ techniques and would study other posts, but many times they lacked sufficient detail to be informative.

The xy-wing -378 has the vertex 78 in r3c7, pincer 37 in r1c7 and pincer 38 is a pseudocell in r39c1; r9c7<>3.
