To solve it, Sudoku Susser suggests two chains to eliminate 9 and then 1 in R8C2.

Two steps. ALS279[(9)r7c13 = (7)r7c3]r7c13 - (7=1)r7c6 - (1=9)r9c5; r7c5\|r9c2<>9, AIC: (7=1)r8c2 - r9c2 = r9c5 - (1=7)r7c6; r7c3\|r8c456<>7 completes the puzzle. Ted

I re-did the puzzle from the start. Seems like the m-wing was there right after basics no other steps are needed.

It's even better than that! From the very start (forget about basics):

Step 1: R8C3 = 4
Step 2: M-wing takes out 1 in R9C56

The puzzle is done!

If we had an Oscar for the best solution of the year, this would be my nomination! Congratulations!

Nataraj,

I find it interesting that your m-wing generally involved many of the same cells as I used in an ALS. You also used digits 1 & 7, whereas I started with 7 & 9 but used 1 as part of transport action. In any case, it seemed we were both in the area where the action was, but I needed another step.

Thanks for the nomination, Keith, but don't think that this lucky coincidence would qualify for "best". I never start looking for any type of wings until I'm done with basics - and ... I am not even a member of the "one-shot hunting team" Wink

Of, course, finding a golden nugget even by chance is still a nice find Smile
