A short one-step xy-chain... with a sort of w-wing shape. Are xy-chains in the "advanced" category?
Quote: | xy-chain (9=1)r4c5-(1=2)r4c1-(2=1)r5c4-(1=3)r5c8-(3=9)r5c2; r4c2<>9
or
(9=1)r4c5-r4c1=r5c1-(1=39)r5c27

No, they're in a higher rating. However, few puzzles are solved using the category/rating that my solver used to solve them. |

Thought so, but I struggle to understand why a 4 cell xy-chain counts as super-advanced when it is one tiny step beyond an xy-wing? To me these are natural patterns to check out when the grid has "enough" bivalues.
I can see why a general AIC which mixes strong links on conjugates and strong links on bivalues, perhaps with a few ANS moves thrown in, is 'super advanced' ... but not a simple xy-chain.
If your sole motivation with this game was solving puzzles, then colouring and xy-chains would get you a long way! |
