I haven't looked at this but is it straying into classic MUG/BUG territory by any chance ?

There's an xy-chain, pincers at r2c3 and r9c7 that removes 7 at r9c3 and solves it but I'm guessing that is not what you are after.......

Danny, I have to do a colouring move or skyscraper to get to your 'after basics' - have I missed something? (At least using SS for basics Smile )

Using Danny's "After basics", I found this chain pursuing an xy-wing.

Quote:
(4=8)r2c8 - r2c7 = r7c7 - r7c2 = (8-4)r8c2 = r8c1 - r2c1 = (4)r3c2; r3c8<>4

My mistake. I used a PM for the final step instead of the PM before the Turbot step(s). So, go with whatever you have for a solution.

So from the original grid I had two moves ending in one of many possible xy-chains..
Quote:
skyscraper(4); r3c9<>4, r9c8<>4
xy-chain (7=4)r2c1-(4=9)r3c2-(9=3)r3c9-(3=7)r8c9; r8c1<>7

You could also have chosen an ending M/W-Wings.

Code:
rcc_-r_-c (7=9)r2c3 - r2c7 = (9-7)r6c7 = (7)r9c7  =>  r9c3<>7
rcr_--_-- (9=8)r7c2 - r7c7 = (8-9)r2c7 = (9)r2c3  =>  r3c2,r7c3<>9
rcb_-r_-c (9=8)r7c2 - r7c7 = (8-9)r2c7 = (9)r3c9  =>  r3c2<>9

W-Wing (9=7)r2c3 - r9c3 = r9c7 - (7=9)r6c7  =>  r2c7<>9
W-Wing (8=9)r2c7 - r2c3 = r3c2 - (9=8)r7c2  =>  r7c7<>8
W-Wing (8=9)r2c7 - r2c3 = r7c3 - (9=8)r7c2  =>  r7c7<>8
W-Wing (8=9)r2c7 - r3c9 = r3c2 - (9=8)r7c2  =>  r7c7<>8
