One less step but also with an illegal alien in step 2....who, in mitigation m'lord, is easy to spot:

2. XY-Chain (78 w-wing) pincers at r3c9, r6c1 so r6c9<>7
3. Massive colouring carnage of 8s at r2c8, r4c9, r6c7, r7c6 and r8c9 or if you're having too much fun, a skyscraper on 8s removing 8 at r8c9
