I tried to solve this only using "advanced" steps but stuggled - some colouring, and xyz-wing.. I guess I am missing a DP move!! Anyway I resorted to a two step with a simple xy-chain...

Quote:
x-wing(2) r17c69; r1c3<>2, r7c257<>2
xy-chain (6=1)r1c3 - (1=2)r1c9 - (2=1)r7c9 - (1=8)r7c7 - (8=6)r7c2; r8c3<>6

Nice one Ted..did you notice that:

ANP(6=12)r1c39 solves the puzzle (but check out basics that follow!).

The converse ANP(12=6)r1c38-r8c3; R8c3 solves puzzle.

MM, I initially tried ANP(12=6) but did not find a solution so I tried ANP(6=12) and found the solution I posted. As I was preparing the post, I realized the the last part of the chain also worked for the converse but choose to post the long form anyway. Why take a short path when a long, more messy path is funner.
