There is a holiday in Austria, today.
"Dec. 8 - St.Shopping"
Used to be one of these Catholic holidays, but now it's only like most people have a day off and all shops are open. Instead of shopping, I colllected some of the puzzles I did not include in the regular daily -o-Rama, because thay were too hard. Or maybe just too long.
Definitely a bit more of a challenge, I'd even say better come prepared with a computer but who knows ...
Special KRAMPUS 2010 Edition
___
"Krampus" is St.Nicholas' Consort, the guy who punishes the kids, whereas Nikolaus gives small gifts. The puzzles in the collection are more of the Krampus type. Dec. 5 is Krampus day. |

Happy St. Shopping Day to and your fellow denizens of Mozartland.
It's also the 30th anniversary of John Lennon's assassination. |

That last puzzle, 1645, has a nice Death Blossom which can turn it into a 2 stepper. (skyscraper)
The horizontal cells marked @ form an almost locked set.
Ditto for the cells marked #.
The only instance of 7 is in column 8.
If both were to be 7 not much good would happen.
Fortunately they cannot both be 7 so at least one is not.
If the one in row 4 isn't then a locked set of 1349 eliminates the 9 in r4c3.
If the one in row 7 isn't then it must be an 8 making r7c3 a 9.
This is about the easiest form of Death Blossom, I find them, sometimes.
The computer showed me this and I like it because it is so clear.
Code: | .------------------.-------------.----------------.
| 8 49 7 | 3 6 1 | 49 5 2 |
| 49 3 2 | 8 5 49 | 7 6 1 |
| 6 1 5 | 49 7 2 | 3489 34 38 |
:------------------+-------------+----------------:
|@149 8 1346-9|@149 2 5 |@134 @347 367 |
| 1459 7 13469 | 149 8 469 | 134 2 356 |
| 1245 245 146 | 7 3 46 | 148 9 568 |
:------------------+-------------+----------------:
| 279 29 #89 | 6 1 3 | 5 #78 4 |
| 3 6 18 | 5 4 7 | 2 18 9 |
| 1457 45 14 | 2 9 8 | 6 137 37 |

Natarj, thanks!
I have posted these puzzles individually so it is easier to track the solutions. Hope this is OK! |

Amazing! I have read about the Death Blossom but never learned to recognize one, let alone find it. Thanks, wapati!
@peterj: no I don't mind at all, better have a separate thread for each one. |

Most people would say that's an ALS-xz. |

hobiwan lists this pattern separately under both names. I like the moniker "Death Blossom" better. Perhaps most people don't? |
