Very similar to the Thursday puzzle. In the UR 68-68-684-681, the 1 forces a 4 in r7c1; r7c7<>4.
That makes it a Type 1; r7c9=1. |

I had the UR as a type 4: Take out 8 in R7B8 and you force 8 in R6C5 and the puzzle is toast.

Different strokes for different folks.
I am a firm believer that creative solutions for less complicated puzzles equip you to kill the very hard ones in the future.
My UR Type 6 and George Wood's W-wing are prime examples.
I am not sure where the M-wing fits in this discussion. As I recall, the original was a solution of a difficult puzzle.

I have not played Sudoku for some time now and may have forgotten the basics, but I don't follow your logic that r7c7<>4.
