The weekend (Friday) USA Today puzzle is usually a challenge, although I believe it does not require advanced moves.

Their site, though, is a nightmare of ads and pop-ups and other garbage. Not recommended. (Stay away!)

This is today's puzzle. I have not done it. I have verified it has only one solution, and that it requires no advanced moves

Code:
Puzzle: USA021111
+-------+-------+-------+
| 9 . . | . 6 . | . . . |
| . . 1 | . 8 9 | 4 . . |
| 2 . . | . . . | . 6 3 |
+-------+-------+-------+
| 5 . . | . . . | . 9 . |
| . 2 . | 5 3 1 | . 7 . |
| . 7 . | . . . | . . 5 |
+-------+-------+-------+
| 1 8 . | . . . | . . . |
| . . 4 | 2 5 . | 3 . . |
| . . . | . 4 . | . . 8 |
+-------+-------+-------+

-------+-------+------
 5 . . | . . . | . 9 .

-------+-------+------
 1 8 . | . . . | . . .
 . . 4 | 2 5 . | 3 . .
 . . . | . 4 . | . . 8

is this a joke ?

solved entirely by "hidden singles"
( even after removing the superfluous clue at r3c1
to give a symmetrical puzzle )

No,

Someone posted a question about this puzzle in another forum thread. Unfortunately, I lost that message while trying to move it.
