Type 1 UR 78 solves it by eliminating 78 in r8c4.

I found it somewhat unusual and therefore good. For those who donīt like UR:s, a twostepper: An x-wing on 9 revealed a triplet 124 giving r5c6=9.

..a onestepper - triplets don't count as VH steps.

Someone help me out here. I can't get the 124 triple after the X-Wing because I haven't figured out how to get rid of the 8 from r9c6.

Code:

+-----------+------------+---------+
| 579 59 1  | 89  6  789 | 3  4  2 |
| 2   4  8  | 1   3  5   | 6  9  7 |
| 79  3  6  | 4   2  79  | 8  1  5 |
+-----------+------------+---------+
| 1   6  37 | 23  8  24  | 47 5  9 |
| 49  2  5  | 6   7  49  | 1  3  8 |
| 489 89 37 | 359 15 149 | 47 2  6 |
+-----------+------------+---------+
| 3   1  2  | 78  9  6   | 5  78 4 |
| 6   58 9  | 578 4  3   | 2  78 1 |
| 58  7  4  | 258 15 128 | 9  6  3 |
+-----------+------------+---------+

After the x wing in 9 you can remove the 9s from r1c1 r1c6
This reveals an xy wing 578 pivot at r1c1 eliminating the 8 from r9c6 and solving the puzzle.

I must admit I did not follow the reasoning give above by roaa, since if r9c6 is not 8 then the puzzle has already been solved. As can be proved by going to the empty puzzle in draw/play and entering the 8 in r1c6 and then grade button. It will no longer be very difficult but medium

Marty: The only way I see to get rid of the 8 is a UR on 78. And then I don't see a triple. A quad maybe (though not really needed).

George's XY-Wing after the X-Wing was the only thing I found that uses just the techniques that are needed to solve these, i.e., X-, XY- and XYZ-Wing.

In addition to the Type 1 UR on 78, there's an M-Wing on 89.

Sorry! I must have made a mistake in the elimination of the 8. In a new attempt I have to use the xy-wing after the x-wing!
