I'm having a hard time solving -- I thought I had the obvious moves but I seem to be stuck now. Any clues? Perhaps I've made an error along the way. Thanks. |

This is the puzzle I was referring to but for some reason it is not the puzzle now listed for Oct 23, medium difficulty.
This difficulty was unknown when I printed it. When I just used the draw and play function the web site recognized the puzzle and knew the original markings. This is as far as I got:
Thank you. I thought that was pretty neat how the Sweep, etc, worked!

James, I have no idea what your experience in Sudoku is. I think I see a Swordfish on 9 in rows 279, but I can't see where it opens things up. Maybe someone else will come along with some suggestions. |

Solution using only single digit techniques ...
1. Empty Rectangle (1R8B4) :=> -1r6c5 [Not required]
2. Finned Swordfish(8C257) :=> -8r4c46
3. Finned Swordfish(8C267) :=> -8r3c5
4. Swordfish(9R2B79) :=> -9r1c3, -9r8c56, -9r16c9
5. Pointing : 9r7c4=9r9c4 :=> -9r146c4
=> r6c5=9, r3c5=3=r1c3
6. Swordfish(8C257) :=> -8r3c16, -8r8c6
=> r1c6=8; cascade of singles to the end. |

Swordfish(9R279) :=> "-9r146c348" & Claiming : 9r7c4=9r9c4 :=> -r8c56 & r6c5=9
After that : SF(8C257) :=> r1c6=8 or r8c6=4; stte |

puzzles solved with a Swordfish are not so rare;
puzzles solved with 2 Swordfish — are rare keith wrote: | Please post puzzles that "require" a swordfish.
We'll see what other solution paths there are. |
