I'm stuck at the exacly same place.

The sudoko drawer suggest 5 where the # is, but i just can't see the logic move with this. |

A LOT of brainstorming, and I came up with this:

For positions #: 5,8 are the only options
For position ¤: the options are 2,5,8,9
For position *: the only valid numbers are 2,4
For position %: the options are 2,4,9
That leaves us with 3 possible locations for the number 5.
The numbers 2, 4 and 9 must occupy positions ¤, % and * since that is the only valid space for those three numbers.
Which leaves us with the numbers 5 & 8, which must go into positions #.
This means that the number 5 already oocupies column seven and nine, which only leaves us with option ^ to place the number 5 in.
PHEV! That was a tough one. Did i do it correct? Or is there any easier way to do this? |

Regarding the spots a and b, where you must decide where the 6 and 9 must go. If we place a 9 in slot a, then the only spot we can place the 9 in the top right box must be in slot c. Consequently, a 9 must be placed in slot d, which is the last valid spot to place a 9 in that column. But there is already a 9 in that row, so therefore a 9 cannot go in slot a. A 6 must go in slot A and a 9 must go in the remaining slot. Hope this helps. |

The 5 that is left of slot A is explained in the above posts, and the 1 that is beside the aforementioned 5 can be easily deduced after that 5 is placed. This should make things clearer. |

The fact that only 5 and 8 can go into the positions # already tells you that the 5 has to go into position ^ since they block placing the number 5 in the eight column's three top positions and the bottom three positions of the same colums are blocked by the 5 in that "big square". That only leaves position 4 for the number 5 in column 8. Was that less tough? /Y |

Just to say this was obviously a tricky one as we are all stuck in the same place but thanks Anonymous, your deduction for the 5 is spot on. With the help of that 5 which I didn't at the time see the logic of, I solved the puzzle after a decent amount of further brainstorming which led me to solve the central block of 9, everything else then came quite easily.
