This puzzle appeared in the summer 2007 special collection of the Times.

It took me a rather long xy chain '42'(77)='24'(57)='49'(58 )='96'(68 ) ='69'(61)='94'(91)
to eliminate 4 from r9c9.

This one was the hardest of them all, much harder than the usual "super fiendish".
Any other ways to solve it? I looked for xy wing, w wing finned fish and stuff. nada. |

The fish must not have been biting for you today!
My initial position is a bit different from yours. (You made some eliminations that I don't see with basic steps.) However, it doesn't matter:

There is a Swordfish on <4> in R489, marked #. It eliminates all the <4>s in the cells marked @ and the puzzle is solved in one step. |

How can the fishing be good when one's gear is in dire need of repair?
And you, Asellus, you made me realize a serious flaw in my sudoku-solving technique: I was so used to look at x-wing and swordfish as just some special cases of AICs that I completely stopped looking for swordfish patterns where there are more than 2 cells in a row (col).
Now when you pointed out the swordfish to me, not only did the solution become obvious, it brought me back on the path of virtue.
