|
|
I bought Frank Longo's Mensa Book, Level 1 (?) and solved the first two puzzles ok, but ran into a wall on puzzle #3 after finding only two numbers! Here is where I'm stuck:
Code: |
|---------------------------------------------------------------------|
| 138 | 4678 | 13478 | 2 | 1457 | 34567 | 134689 | 13456 | 14689 |
| 13 | 5 | 1347 | 8 | 9 | 3467 | 1346 | 1346 | 2 |
| 9 | 2468 | 12348 | 1345 | 145 | 3456 | 7 | 13456 | 1468 |
|---------------------|----------------------|------------------------|
| 7 | 24 | 2459 | 6 | 1245 | 345 | 12349 | 8 | 149 |
| 2568 | 3 | 24589 | 145 | 12458 | 458 | 12469 | 7 | 1469 |
| 268 | 1 | 248 | 347 | 2478 | 9 | 2346 | 2346 | 5 |
|---------------------|----------------------|------------------------|
| 125 | 27 | 6 | 9 | 4578 | 4578 | 1245 | 1245 | 3 |
| 4 | 278 | 2578 | 57 | 3 | 1 | 2568 | 9 | 678 |
| 1358 | 9 | 13578 | 457 | 6 | 2 | 1458 | 145 | 1478 |
|---------------------------------------------------------------------|
|
or, perhaps it's easier to the eyes with the candidates not shown:
Code: |
|-----------------------------------|
| | | | 2 | | | | | |
| | 5 | | 8 | 9 | | | | 2 |
| 9 | | | | | | 7 | | |
|-----------------------------------|
| 7 | | | 6 | | | | 8 | |
| | 3 | | | | | | 7 | |
| | 1 | | | | 9 | | | 5 |
|-----------------------------------|
| | | 6 | 9 | | | | | 3 |
| 4 | | | | 3 | 1 | | 9 | |
| | 9 | | | 6 | 2 | | | |
|-----------------------------------|
|
Can anyone tell what logic gives me the next cell?
Has anyone else worked with this book?
TIA,

As it stands I believe the puzzle has 128 solutions, which seems strange.
Can you check the entries for misprints just in case it's not worth continuing?

Oops! I missed an entry. In the original puzzle there is a 6 in r1c8 which makes all the difference and the puzzle is now solved.
Sorry for te mistake.
