Can I just say "ditto" to my post about 11-23 (A)? I used a smorgasbord of moves, including a rare (for me) XYZ transport. At one point I found a triple or quad, can't remember which, but it might have been there earlier such that some of the moves weren't needed. Regardless, I enjoyed the puzzle, as usual. |

I agree with Marty; it was a fun puzzle.
I used four different moves:
x-wing on 5,
skyscraper on 6,
finned x-wing on 6,
AIC found by extending the vertex of a potential xy-wing.

I'm glad that everyone seems to be enjoying my current batch of puzzles
For this puzzle, my solver used:
X-Wing, Skyscraper, finned X-Wing, XYZ-Wing, and BUG+1
Given a recent comment by Keith that he prefers a puzzle that's more than basics and a single advanced step to crack it, I dedicate this puzzle to him. |

Danny, it seems that my first three moves were those detected by your solver. The chain as my last step was the only difference.

I've always had a concern that my puzzles might not have enough latitude in the solution steps to allow everyone a chance to find a solution they can call their own.
I spend a lot of time generating and reviewing puzzles. During the review process, I try to ensure that there are alternate paths to the solution without any one path breaking the puzzle. But, it's an imperfect process at best. For sure, I often miss the fact that two advanced steps are needed back-to-back ... creating a bottleneck for those solving the puzzle. For this puzzle, the finned X-Wing and the XYZ-Wing created a bottleneck. I'm glad that you and Marty had fun getting around the bottleneck
Regards, Danny |
