I think the answer is, the hard puzzles are on Friday and Sunday. 1637 would be Saturday, not as difficult.

The Friday and Sunday puzzles are classified as "Diabolical." On 1636 I used coloring, two ERs, XY-Loop, Type 4 UR and Medusa. |

A kite and a xy-chain

kite 4 leads to
XY-Chain:

For MM 1636,
I used a finned x-wing to remove 4 from r7c7,
a skyscraper to remove 5 from r9c8, and
an AIC formed by extending the vertex of a potential xy-wing using the two bivalue cells created in the first two steps:
(1=8)r9c8 - (8=7)r7c7 - (7=5)r7c2 - (5)r2c2 = (5-1)r2c8 = (1)r2c7; r89c7<>1.
