Five steps.

Hidden UR45 in r89c59,
Type 1 UR29 in r29c46,
xy-wing 2-46 with vertex in r1c7 with pseudocell pincer24 plus transport,
w-wing 46 in r1c2 and r4c1,
and finally I finished the puzzle with the move used by Marty to complete the puzzle in one step.

Marty's XYZ-Wing works, too.

 # 52 eliminations remain

 <48+2>  XYZ-Wing r7c3/r7c7+r8c3         <> 2    r7c1

BTW: leave it up to a puzzle where I messed up the date to get a lot of discussion. Very Happy

Marty, please do not misunderstand my comment. I was simply bemoaning the fact that I used four steps before I found your one step solution.

It is interesting that on the one occasion I looked for xyz-wing immediately after basics, I also found a one-stepper. Maybe we are onto something here?

When I see a solution that took more steps then mine I like to double check because I've been burned too often, such as posting that I solved a puzzle with all basics, only to discover that I made a lucky mistake.

I considered the possibility that you were questioning my one-stepper, but I was going to take a second shot at it regardless, since at the time there was no confirmation of my solution. Very Happy

(B)-category puzzles often have an XYZ-Wing according to my solver. I don't check to see if the other steps are necessary. I don't check to see if other steps can get around it. For sure, extensions and transports will probably get around it.

Regards, Danny

Today again a one stepper, but dear Danny, lately many of your puzzles were not se easy to solve with the simplified Oaxen Technique. I have had a lot of fun!
