Well, I never hit the sweet spot using VH+ steps on this puzzle; it took me a total of ten moves! It was fun working it given all the moves that seemed possible but they never were overly fruitful.

I used several x-wings, Type 1 UR, w-wings, xy-wings, a kite and one coloring step.

Heh heh, once again I lose the number-of-moves competition. This was a 12-stepper. There was the usual assortment of commonly used moves, plus three XY-Chains, which Ted didn't mention.

As a BBDB, it was very aptly named.

Yes, my solver's solution showed a succession of steps that were not impressive individually, but the cumulative effect was impressive. The UR Type 1 in the middle of the solution was the closest thing to a "surprise" that I saw.

Thanks Marty and Ted for battling your way through the puzzle!

Regards, Danny

Marty, since this was posted as a VH+ puzzle I did not look for chains.

Ted, I generally don't try to include/exclude any particular moves. I just take each puzzle and try to solve it as best I can. Which, by the way, is not meant to be critical of anyone who chooses to use the moves associated with the puzzle's rating.

A thread starting with "5" in r1c6 makes it a one stepper.
A "5" in r1c3 shows after a few steps to be impossible.
