One step....

Quote:
Almost flightless xy-wing 23-8 with vertex in r2c8 and fin (1)r2c8
If flightless xy-wing is true: transport: (8)r6c5-r45c6=(8)r3c6; r3c89<>8
If fin is true: (1)r2c8-r3c9=r8c9-(1=9)r9c8-(9=8)r9c4-r1c4=(8)r1c9; r3c89<>8

Three turbot steps...
Quote:
kite(3); r4c6<>3
type 1 ur(15); r3c6<>15
xy-wing(89-3) r3c6; r2c6<>3, r56c4<>3

Howya been, Ted?

I must have cobwebs in my head this AM. I shd be able to find an xy-wing given the vertex, but somehow I cannot.

Luke
I couldn't find it either but concluded it was an extended wing - making this an "finned flightless extended xy-wing with pincer transport".
The extension is (2=1)r2c5-(1=8)r6c5... looks more like an xy-chain to me!

Sorry about Luke; I guess I should have IDed the pincers. In any case, the pincers are (38)r1c9 and pincer (28 ) is a pseudocell in r26c5. (Keith introduced me the the notion of a pseudocell pincer.)

The pseudocell pincer is transported to obtain the xy-wing deletions, and then the fin (1) is considered to determine the deletions it provides.

Peter, you are correct. The pseudocell pincer (28 ) is simply a two cell chain.

Peter, I have a more basic question. Can you explain your Type 1 UR(15)? I see a Type 1 UR (78); r4c2<>78; but it appears to me, from Danny's candidates profiles, there are too many other possibilties for 15. Assuming you are correct, though, then I see a W Wing (89), but I do not see your XY Wing. So, I guess I need an explanation for that too. Sorry if this is too basic for you, but thanks.

Dave

PS I have been around a while, but am usually at least a week behind; so that is why I do not write often.

PPS I really enjoy Danny's puzzles (& do not even bother with Sam's Very Hards anymore) & the contributions of all of you guys'.

After the Kite and some more basics I have this grid..
Code:
*---------------------------------------------------------------------*
 | 1      9      2      | b38    4      7       | 6      5      38     |
 | 78     78     5      | 6      12     13      | 4      123    9      |
 | 3      4      6      |*15     12589  a89-*15 | 27     1278   178    |
 |----------------------+-----------------------+----------------------|
 | 78     13678  1389   | 4      158    158     | 279    23678  378    |
 | 2      378    4      | 379    6      c39     | 1      378    5      |
 | 5      13678  1389   | 37     18     2       | 79     3678   4      |
 |----------------------+-----------------------+----------------------|
 | 9      2      7      | *15    3     *15      | 8      4      6      |
 | 6      138    138    | 2      89     4       | 5      179    17     |
 | 4      5      18     | 89     7      6       | 3      19     2      |
 *---------------------------------------------------------------------*

The UR is marked with * and it immediately exposes the xy-wing marked abc.
Welcome!

Peter

Doh! It's been a while since I've missed a triple which opened up in box 5 because of the kite elimination. Thanks again.
