Type 1 UR 58 in r36c13; r3c3=2 opens
XY-Wing 78-68-67 pivoted in r3c9; r9c8<>7; stte.

Slightly different route: 127 xyz-wing pivot at r9c8 opens type 1 UR on 45 does it.

Using strictly the standard VH moves, I needed the XYZ-Wing followed by an XY-Wing 68-7, pivoted in r3c9.

Note: the grid shown has a couple of extra 8s in b9 (locked 8s in r7)

After 127 XYZ wing:
Code:

+------------+--------+------------+
| 4  68  1   | 5 2 9  | 67 78 3    |
| 3  9   7   | 8 1 6  | 5  4  2    |
| 58 268 258 | 7 4 3  | 1  9  68   |
+------------+--------+------------+
| 2  4   3   | 1 5 7  | 8  6  9    |
| 9  7   6   | 4 3 8  | 2  5  1    |
| 58 1   58  | 9 6 2  | 47 3  47   |
+------------+--------+------------+
| 16 3   9   | 2 7 45 | 46 18 4568 |
| 67 5   4   | 3 8 1  | 9  27 67   |
| 17 28  28  | 6 9 45 | 3  17 45   |
+------------+--------+------------+

As a further alternative to Marty's 687 XY wing- the 467 pivot r8c9
also does the trick. Nice one today- tricky basics and a number of
solutions.

I got as far as hughwill, but trying to follow the strict VH moves, I do not see the 127 XYZ-Wing suggested by kuskey and Marty R.

What am I missing?

Dart45,

In Clement's grid, the 8s can be removed from r9c89. Then the 127 XYZ-Wing can be seen pivoted in r9c8.
