				Loving all of the various solving paths used by this community. I don't have a handle on Nice Loops at all yet, but I did spot the W wing after ZeroAssoluto made it clear. Brilliant!
 
 
I followed my "pet" path, which was the finned XY-wing of (567) with the pivot at r7c1, and pincers at r4c1 and r7c3. The XY-wing proved true upon making r4c3<>6. Basics took me home from there.
 
 
I guess the XY-wing solving technique could be referred to as my "specialty" at the present time, and upon learning of the finned XY-wing, it just put me over the top. I cannot help looking for them first. Must be from all of those Very Hards I had been doing over the last year or so.

I don't understand what a Finned XY-Wing is. How did you eliminate the 6 from r4c3? |

A finned XY-wing is basically an XY-Wing with an extra candidate in the pivot, while still conforming to the rules of an XY-wing, by that I mean no extra candidates besides the three that make up the XY-Wing itself.... example here of a pure XY-wing would have the pivot with only two candidates (in this case r7c1 would have just the 5 and 7 as candidates). But the fin is the extra candidate (in this case the 6) so the pivot now has three candidates instead of the customary two. In ALL finned XY -wings, EITHER the fin is true, OR the XY-Wing is true, so one can begin a mock solve by either placing the fin in the pivot square (in this case 6) OR by removing the fin (6) and mock solving as if it were a true XY-Wing. This was what ended up being true with no contradictions. The two pincers (r4c1 and r7c3) each contain the 6 as a candidate.....and they both "see" r4c3, thereby making r4c3<>6.

Yes. A good friend (who doesn't post any more) 	  | Quote: | 	 		   used to play that move and others. He called them "almosts", like almost XY-Wing, almost X-Wing, almost rectangle, etc.
 
 
We had different thoughts on the use of these moves. In his almost XY-Wing, the fin could be in a pincer cell as well as pivot. |
