Many steps, although not extremely difficult.
Different methods can be used:
- coloring (2,5,6;4,8 )
- xy-wing (and/or UR - not sure if they remove the same candidates)
- w-wing and/or m-wing to finish it off
every elimination hard won... |

As in the neighboring post, this, too, is a "one trick pony." After basics:
Code: | +-----------------+----------------+-----------------+
| 45 78 1 | 2 3578 6 | 3489 3478 349 |
| 9 3 2 | 78 1 4 | 5 78 6 |
| 6 78 45 | 35 3578 9 | 1348 2 134 |
+-----------------+----------------+-----------------+
| 2 9 348 | 1 3458 58 | 34 6 7 |
| 3478 6 3478 | 34 348 2 | 19 5 19 |
| 1 5 34 | 6 9 7 | 2 34 8 |
+-----------------+----------------+-----------------+
|a378 4 a3789 |b78 2 1 | 6 389 5 |
| 3578 2 6 | 9 4578 b58 | 348 1 34 |
|a58 1 a589 |#4-5 6 3 | 7 489 2 |
+-----------------+----------------+-----------------+ |
There is a 35789 ALS in b7, labeled "a", and a 578 ALS in b8, labeled "b". There is a shared exclusive <7> in r7. The shared common <5>s have a victim marked #, which solves the puzzle. (Sorry again, nataraj!)
As a sort of curiosity, there is a Franken Swordfish on 8 in this grid. The <8>s in r2, b8 and b9 are confined to c4, c8 and r8. So, <8>s can be eliminated from r8c1 and r1c8. However, the 5 X-Wing, which is the likely first step for most, simplifies this pattern to an 8 X-Wing with the same net result on 8s. |
