A lower rated Menneske that is a good VH.

I had five steps to complete the puzzle as follows:
Two x-wings: one on <1> and another on <9>,
XYZ-wing <146> with pivot at r4c9,
either an xy-chain or an extended w-wing on <46>, and finally
a xy-wing <139>.

What was the rating Ted?
I used multi-coloring on 9 and an X-Wing on 1, not sure if either did anything. Then an XYZ-Wing on 146, XY-Wing on 496 with pincer coloring and the same XY-Wing on 139 that Ted used to finish it off. |

When you say "normal" wings does that mean without extensions. I used the two x-wings and actually three xyz-wings <469>: <236>: <146> then I got stuck. But I don't extend. |

Ah! W-wings you say. I don't extend or use W-wings. I guess that's why I can't finish. Thanks anyway.

I normally will only attack Menneske puzzles at low ratings generally below 100. This one was 19. I submitted it simply because I anticipated that most of the users on this site would require multiple steps; one step solutions on the first attempt of a puzzle are not much fun to me.

.... actually I am able to finish with my x and xyz wings - I missed a basic line elimination which leaves a Bug+1 for <369>. |

Ted,
To each his own. I don't consider most of the ratings up to 100 to be "low."
As to one-step solutions, I dislike them too. A major disappointment is doing too many puzzles that are either too easy or hard; finding ones that are just right isn't so easy. |

I definitely do not want to imply that I am able to solve all or even most rated near 100, but I do try them in hopes that I will at least be able to make some good, difficult eliminations. I believe they help me develop my skills even when I am not able to fully solve the puzzle.
