I enjoyed the basic line/box eliminations - one led to another. Used a simple UR but then got stuck and had to resort to Remote Pairs (56). Though I bet I missed a wing or two.

The 6-cell remote pair<56> was fairly obvious, as was the UR on<47>. I then had a kite, multi-coloring and coloring all on <5> followed by a xy-wing on <567> that deleted another <5> to kill the beast.

Ravel, a really nice puzzle. Thanks much .......

...Actually my beast was slain with just the UR and remote pairs.

I worked the puzzle again with identical results except I did not need the remote pair; I must have missed a basic elimination the first time.

Code:

 *-----------------------------------------------------------*
 | 479   56    47    | 5679  5689  789   | 1     2     3     |
 | 2     1     56    | 3     4     56    | 8     7     9     |
 | 79    8     3     | 1279  19    279   | 5     6     4     |
 |-------------------+-------------------+-------------------|
 | 13    7     569   | 2569  569   239   | 4     1359  8     |
 | 138   4     569   | 569   7     38    | 69    13    2     |
 | 38    56    2     | 4     89    1     | 7     39    56    |
 |-------------------+-------------------+-------------------|
 | 5     2     8     | 1679  169   79    | 3     4     67    |
 | 6     9     1     | 57    3     4     | 2     8     57    |
 | 47    3     47    | 8     2     56    | 69    59    1     |
 *-----------------------------------------------------------*

We have a type 1 UR <47> in r19c13 that makes r1c1=9.

At this point, I don't see a remote pair elimination. My first time, I removed <56> from r9c9, but on my second pass those digits were removed by basics.

For me, I then completed the puzzle using a kite, multi-coloring and coloring on <5> followed by a xy-wing on <567>.

Craig, did you have different code after basics or did I miss a simple deletion?

Ted

Sorry, I chucked the puzzle - but I seem to recall a triple or two and maybe even a quad. In fact, I thought it was the basics of this puzzle that made it so exceptional.

Cheers

I never saw a remote pairs elimination. Used the Type 1, XY-Wing on 893, two ERs on 5, Skyscraper on 5, two hidden URs, and a W-Wing on 67 followed by pincer coloring on same. A fun puzzle.
