All of the steps may not have been necessary and simpler solutions may exist, but it took me eight steps of fun using VH techniques to finish this puzzle.

Some details are:
Quote:
It started slowly with three kites (or coloring),
two w-wings,
I found a (useless) m-wing but transported the pincers to make a deletion,
a single xy-wing,
and completed it with a BUG+1.

After basics only few candidates remain (1,3,6 and 8. well, yes there are still some fives...):

One kite (1) row 9 col 6: r2c3<>1
one kite (3) row 9 col 6: r6c3<>3
(one kite (8), not shown in the diagrams, row 4, col 6: r2c3<>8)

and a VERY useful w-wing (1) r5c2=r9c3 (both "see" the strong link (3) in col 5): r4c3,r7c2,r8c2<>1

---

after some cleanup, an xy-wing 36-38-68 col3 and row 4 removes 6 from r2c4

and finally, a BUG+1 (alternatively xy-wing) to finish it off.

Very nice and interesting puzzle!

I just reviewed this thread and saw that I had not included the code in the original post. Thank you Dan for your kind gesture to post it.

I think this is another example of the rule " Don't drink and play Sudoku".
