Here is a Vanhagen "Fiendish" that I enjoyed very much. It offered many optional VH steps to the final solution.

Code:

 |..2|931|..5|
 |---+---+---|

 |..6|...|1..|

There are some interesting possibilities with the <45> cells in tower 2.

For extra credit: How do you eliminate <9> in R4C1, in two steps? Nataraj has given the first.

As I noted in my original post, this puzzle has many options. So far, no one has mentions the URs on <39> and <14> after basics that provide "useless" deletions, or the "useless" UR <49> that opens up after the skyscraper on <5>. I also found finned x-wing, kites, x-wing, multi-coloring, more xy-wings, and m-wings in addition to what has already been mentioned elsewhere. Whatever you preference, this puzzle seems to have it.

After the skyscraper on <5>, a xy-wing <459> opens up with pivot <45> in r2c5 and pincers <59> in r2c1 and <49> in r9c5. The <9> in pincer r9c5 of this "useless" xy-wing is transported to r8c5 and then to r8c1, thereby deleting the <9> in r4c1 (and also r9c1).

Two steps. Coloring on 5, using the three 45s and r2c1, takes out the 5 from r8c1. That cell then becomes the pivot for an XY-Wing on 495 which, with pincer coloring, finishes the puzzle.

I don't have my grid after basics and I don't know if it's the same one as shown in this thread.

After basics:

My grid was different because I can't solve it with my steps from grids shown here. I tried the puzzle again and can't replicate my original solution.

Also, the XY-Wing I mentioned takes out the 5 from r9c5. However, I now see that after the coloring, that 5 from r9c5 is removed by simple locked candidates.

Back to the drawing board.

I gave the second step, too Smile although maybe the removal of several 4's doesn't qualify as one step (there are different paths for each of the eliminations) ... Anyway:

After the initial skyscraper (5), in this position
Code:

+--------------------------+--------------------------+--------------------------+
| 3       8       159      | 45      7       6        | 249     149     249      |
| 59      19      7        | 2       45      8        | 3       149     6        |
| 6       4       2        | 9       3       1        | 8       7       5        |
+--------------------------+--------------------------+--------------------------+
| 489     139     13489    | 7       6       5        | 49      2       1349     |
| 7       5       14       | 3       2       9        | 6       8       14       |
| 2       6       39       | 8       1       4        | 7       5       39       |
+--------------------------+--------------------------+--------------------------+
| 1       239     349      | 6       8       7        | 5       49      249      |
| 49      7       6        | 45      459     2        | 1       3       8        |
| 58      29      58       | 1       49      3        | 249     6       7        |
+--------------------------+--------------------------+--------------------------+

coloring on 4 takes out 4 from r1c7 and r1c9, leaving a naked pair (29), plus it takes out 4 in r7c8, leaving a naked single 9.

The NP 29 removes 9 from r1c3, the naked single removes 9 from r7c3.
Now 9 in box 4 must be in column 3 and r3c12<>9.
