That happens with me very frequently, but this was one of the exceptions.

Marty, I saw the making of your solution but I just could not find the full pattern; I must have not completed basics.
In any case, my first move did the trick; I was surprised. Quote: |

The remote pair (36) is a "single-step."

This puzzle opens the door to two questions that've been nagging me for awhile.
If a Remote Pair only eliminates one of the candidate values, is it really a Remote Pair ... or is it simply Coloring (or some other single-digit pattern)?
Code: | *--------------------------------------------------------------------*
| 1 3 56789 | 4 89 789 | 567 68 2 |
| 2679 278 6789 | 1 5 3789 | 367 368 4 |
| 57 578 4 | 6 38 2 | 357 9 1 |
|----------------------+----------------------+----------------------|
| 35 1 2 | 589 89-6 5689 |*36G 4 7 |
| 79 6 79 | 3 4 1 | 2 5 8 |
| 8 4 35 | 7 2 56 | 9 1 *36B |
|----------------------+----------------------+----------------------|
| 25 9 1 | 25 *36B 4 | 8 7 *36G |
| 4 258 3568 | 258 7 3568 | 1 *36B 9 |
| 367 78 3678 | 89 1 3689 | 4 2 5 |
*--------------------------------------------------------------------*

Similarly, although not true here, if a Skyscraper only eliminates candidates in one box, is it really a Skyscraper ... or is it simply a Sashimi X-Wing? (Actually, it's both, but I love asking this question ) |
