I was not looking for any specific pattern given the hint, but my first find was probably it.

Same cells and elimination as Ted, but a different interpretation.

Too abstruse for me - but I think there was a w-wing for <28> that removes the <8> from R2C4. It don't get me nowhere though. |

A three-step xy-chain eliminates the 8 in R2C5 and solves the puzzle.
Love those xy-chains!
