This one is hard to avoid with only basic stuff. I don't do colors so I don't know about that.
Sashimi sword one-stepper.

Colors is sufficient and recommended.
However, there are three (singly) finned Sashimi Swordfish present.
Code: | Sashimi Swordfish c358\r234 w/fin [r5c5] [r4c6]<>6
Sashimi Swordfish r147\c468 w/fin [r1c9] [r2c8]<>6
Sashimi Swordfish r147\c469 w/fin [r4c7] [r6c9]<>6
|
The last two Sashimi Swordfish can be combined into a Siamese Sashimi Swordfish.
Code: | Siamese Sashimi Swordfish r147\c46(89) [r2c8],[r6c9]<>6
|
Colors and Multiple Colors doesn't work on the second puzzle. However, I'll leave it for someone else.
Personal Note: I don't know how many members of this site are interested in puzzles that need/use Fish solutions. |

An even simpler one-step solution for the second puzzle is the following W-Wing:
Code: | *-----------------------------------------------------------*
| 167 8 5 | 67 9 1467 | 146 2 3 |
| 167 9 16 | 2 3 1467 | 146 8 5 |
| 2 3 4 | 5 8 16 | 9 7 16 |
|-------------------+-------------------+-------------------|
| 8 1 7 |w36 4 9 | 5 s36 2 |
| 369 45 369 | 367 2 567 | 68 1 468 |
|w36 45 2 | 8 1 #5-6 | 7 s364 9 |
|-------------------+-------------------+-------------------|
| 14 7 18 | 9 5 3 | 2 46 1468 |
| 349 6 389 | 1 7 2 | 38 5 48 |
| 5 2 13 | 4 6 8 | 13 9 7 |
*-----------------------------------------------------------* |
The first puzzle can also be solved using a Finned X-Wing with fin transport. The FXW is in r16 with Fin r6c2. The fin can be transported to r1c4, thus eliminating the <6> at r7c4.
arkietech,
I don't know what to call your first solution either because I can't follow it. Can you explain how your markup leads to the elimination of <6> in r2c9? |

if r1c9=1 r1c4=6 r6c4<>6 r6c9=6 => r2c9<>6
if r1c9=6 => r2c9<>6
Have I boo-booed again? |

The part in red doesn't work. How do you know that r6c2 isn't <6>?
It's safer in these cases to use Eureka notation to assure the implications alternate:
(6=1)r1c9 - (1=6)r1c4 - (6)r6c4=(6)???
The <6> that follows the <6> in r6c4 must have a strong inference link with this <6>. There is no such <6> in the grid. |

'------------------'------------------'------------------' |
here is a uniqueness test solution for the second puzzle
if r5c13 is 6 then r5c7 is not 6
or
if r5c13 is not 6 then
the resulting type 4 UR on {3,9} allows us to remove the 3's in r8c13 to avoid the deadly pattern.
forces 3 into r8c7
forces 8 into r5c7... r5c7 is not 6
so either way, r5c7 is not 6.
----
the inference is on the 6's in r5c13 and the 3 in r8c7, both cannt be false at the same time or the DP is forced to exist
UR39[(6)r5c13 = (3)r8c7] - (8)r8c7 = (8)r5c7; r5c7 <> 6 |

UR1 and finned Jelly do this up nicely.
Code: | . . .|6 3 7|. . .
. . 3|9 . .|. . .
. 1 .|8 . 4|6 . .
-----+-----+-----
9 6 5|. . .|. . .
4 . .|. . 9|. 3 .
1 . 2|. 6 .|5 . .
-----+-----+-----
. . 6|. . 5|. 9 1
. . .|. 9 .|2 . .
. . .|. . .|8 . 5 |
(Yep, I know that remote pairs can be used instead.) |
