I found a 3 stepper:
Quote:
3 skyscraper
3 x-wing
Advanced coloring or 97-73-35-57-75-59

An alternate solution that some will prefer:
Quote:
3 skyscraper
3 x-wing
793 xy-wing
5 skyscraper
BUG+1

My three moves were:
a finned swordfish on 3 in r578c345 with fin r8c1. The fin does not make a direct deletion, but treating it like a "Kraken fin" deletes the 3 in r1c4,
w-wing 37 with pincers in r3c6 and r8c5 with strong link in row4; additional deletion by transporting a pincer,
xy-wing 357 with pivot 37 inr7c4 and pseudo-cell 35 in row5.

A fun puzzle Exclamation
Ted

I'm just rambling here.

Before I wrote my solver, I would encounter a PM like this and ponder what to do with it. One of my favorite ways to proceed was to look for what I called a three-way branch.

If you look at the 3s in this PM, you'll notice that [r1c2]=3 must be true, or else [r1c4],[r3c1],[r4c2]=3 must be true. A quick examination of the latter possibility leads to <3> being eliminated from [c6]. So, I would set [r1c2]=3 and proceed merrily along.

Code:
 *--------------------------------------------------------------------*
 | 4     *36     8      |@36     5      2      | 79     79     1      |
 | 9      5      7      | 1      8      46     | 3      2      46     |
 |@36     1      2      | 3679   34679 ~37     | 45     8      456    |
 |----------------------+----------------------+----------------------|
 | 356   @36     3456   | 8      3679  ~37     | 1      459    2      |
 | 2      8      3456   | 369    369    1      | 459    459    7      |
 | 7      9      1      | 4      2      5      | 8      6      3      |
 |----------------------+----------------------+----------------------|
 | 1      2      35     | 357    347    9      | 6      457    8      |
 | 356    4      356    | 2      37     8      | 57     1      9      |
 | 8      7      9      | 56     1      46     | 2      3      45     |
 *--------------------------------------------------------------------*

Boy is it nice to reminisce occasionally!

A skyscraper on <3> at r14c2 and r34c6 eliminates <3> from r1c4 and r3c1.

It seems to me that the skyscraper is easier to spot than the three-way branch.

For me it was an ER sandwich, 3 and 5, with a W-Wing on 37 plus pincer transport as the filling.
