Ted,
is this your grid after the x-wing on 4?
I see a skyscraper on 9 in columns 6 and 7 eliminating the 9's from r9c4 and r7c8
Code:
.---------------.---------------.---------------.
| 4    7    1   | 2    9    6   | 3    8    5   |
| 5    2    3   | 1    4    8   | 6    7    9   |
| 9    8    6   | 7    3    5   | 2    4    1   |
:---------------+---------------+---------------:
| 8    9    4   | 6    7    1   | 5    23   23  |
| 1    3    5   | 8    2    49  | 79   6    47  |
| 7    6    2   | 49   5    3   | 14   19   8   |
:---------------+---------------+---------------:
| 3    1    7   | 59   6    49  | 8    259  24  |
| 2    5    9   | 34   8    7   | 14   13   6   |
| 6    4    8   | 359  1    2   | 79   359  37  |
'---------------'---------------'---------------'

which then leaves a BUG+1 grid and places 3 in r9c8

I used one of those mixed W-Wings, Kite (4), Hidden UR (59) and coloring (9).

I don't know if my grid looked like Norm's (although I'm more than capable of missing a skyscraper), but the hidden UR on 59 takes out the 9 from r9c8, opening up the coloring which takes out the 9 from r6c4.

Norm, sorry to take so long to respond. I saw your original post but was distracted and then forgot it until Marty's post.

In reviewing my notes, I originally had the xy-wing 137, the x-wing 4, and then a hidden UR 59 followed by coloring on 9 as posted by Marty. But then I scratched out the last two steps and used a kite to delete 9 from r7c6. In reworking the puzzle, this clearly does not work. Not sure what I did, but the kite works if I failed to restore the 9 deleted by the hidden UR 59.

I normally verify my solutions before posting, but .................Embarassed

Ted
