Earl, I have two XY-Wings of 362 but can't do anything with either. There is one of 683, pivoted in r3c8. There's also a 26 UR in boxes 28. Either r9c4 = 8 or r9c6 = 5. If the latter, then r1c1 = 8 and this acts as a pincer with r9c4 to remove the 8 from r9c1.
Code: |
+----------+------------+-----------+
| 38 6 9 | 17 5 137 | 4 28 12 |
| 14 14 5 | 26 8 26 | 3 7 9 |
| 7 38 2 | 4 9 13 | 5 68 16 |
+----------+------------+-----------+
| 16 12 8 | 3 26 9 | 7 4 5 |
| 5 23 7 | 126 4 126 | 9 36 8 |
| 36 9 4 | 5 7 8 | 1 236 26 |
+----------+------------+-----------+
| 9 58 3 | 78 26 57 | 26 1 4 |
| 2 7 6 | 9 1 4 | 8 5 3 |
| 48 458 1 | 268 3 256 | 26 9 7 |
+----------+------------+-----------+

Marty,
The xy-wing 236 pivoted at R5C2 eliminates the 6 from R6C89 and solves the puzzle.

Earl, I still can't see it. Based on my grid, there would have to be a 26 in r5c8 to make those eliminations. |

Sorry, I gave the wrong directions. It is the 368 as noted by George above. Another senior moment!

further to my earlier comment - before the 368 XY wing I used the 236 XY wing to remove the 2 from r5c8 and that was needed to set up the 368 XY. Maybe there is some other way to remove the offending 2 but I was not clever enough to ssee it! OK tongue in Cheek - the 2s in row 6 of box 6 are the only ones in the complete row therefore... BUT why do it simply when we can do it in a more complicated way! |
