Quite unnecessary. Thats why it's a "hard" 
why "hard" hard? I guess, that depends on technology and solving method. I personally grade puzzles mostly according to the time it takes to solve one. This one took me about twice or three times as long as a usual "hard", definitely much longer than the latest "Very" hard.
Your mileage may vary
P.S. It took quite some time to complete the PMs. And two or three triples to solve. |

Thanks for posting this one, I like puzzles like this they are often  more fun than many "Very Hards". |
