A very fun puzzle that had the hint of a BBDBer. I used five steps, two of which were a little different; some may have not been needed.

Kraken finned x-wing 5 in r15c37 and fin in r4c7 and Kraken fin in r8c7.
If x-wing is true, then r1c5<>5 & r5c2468<>5,
If fin r4c7=5, then r5c468<>5,
If kraken fin r8c7=5, then r5c8<>5.
Thus only r5c8<>5 is valid for all three conditions. (A lot of work for a small result but fun!)

x-wing 6 in r27c58 deletes 6 in r138c5 and r38c8.

x-wing 9 in r59c68 deletes 9 in r6c68 & r8c68

xy-wing 25-8 with vertex 25 in r8c8 deletes r1c7 & r79c8

xyz-wing 678 in r1c1
(6)r1c1 - (6=5)r1c7 - (5=8)r1c3; r3c1<>8
(7)r1c1 - (7=5)r2c2 - (5=8)r1c3; r3c1<>8
(8)r1c1; r3c1<>8 thus r3c1<>8

Ted

I played a bunch of ERs to open things up a little. After that it was an M-Wing (58) and XY-Wing (586).

Seemed to come out with four basic VH steps for me...

Quote:
x-wing(6)
x-wing(9)
xy-wing(258)
xy-wing(568)

Peterj: That matches the simplest solution found by my solver.
