My rating guideline is gone. It wasn't being used anyway.

Code:

There are easier ways to go about this, but this looks interesting.

A lot of overlapping URs here. Or maybe the overlap of a (678)BUG-Lite and two URs, (48) and (67).

Dunno for sure, but I get the notion that this forms a MUG from this post by Asellus. Come to think of it, he didn't sound so confident, either :-)

Code:
*-----------------------------------------------------------*
 | 4     8     67    | 5     2     79    | 679   1     3     |
 | 5     9     3     | 6     178   18    | 78    4     2     |
 | 67    1     2     | 4     789   3     | 5     678   6789  |
 |-------------------+-------------------+-------------------|
 | 79    3     1     | 789   6     5     | 4     2     789   |
 | 8     2     67    | 1     4     79    | 679   3     5     |
 | 679   4     5     | 3     789   2     | 6789  678   1     |
 |-------------------+-------------------+-------------------|
 | 3    *67   *48    | 2     5    *468   | 1     9    *678   |
 | 2    *67   *48+9  | 789   1789 *468+1 | 3     5    *678   |
 | 1     5     89    | 789   3     68    | 2     678   4     |
 *-----------------------------------------------------------*

If the MUG's valid, either the +(9) or +(1) must be true, so (9)r8c3=(1)r8c6.

(8=9)r9c3-(9)r8c3=(1)r8c6-(1=8)r2c3 =>r9c6<>8=6.

Opens up a Type 1 UR on (67) for STE.

So, the question is, To MUG or not to MUG...

Luke, looks like a nice move! However, I don't know my MUGs from my BUGs...

For the record, I did two moves..

Code:
w-wing(79) (7=9)r4c1 - r4c9=r3c3 - r1c7=r1c6 - (9=7)r5c6; r5c3<>7
type 1 UR(67) r78c29; r8c9<>67

But the following would work as a potential MUG uniqueness pattern

Code:
 .  abcd . | abcd abcd . | .   abcd .
 .  abcd . | abcd abcd . | .   abcd .

-----------+-------------+------------
 .  .    . | .    .    . | .   .    .

Myth continued to show that the unavoidable sets associated with this pattern are either a U8 or two U4s.

Rather than as unavoidable sets, it's likely easier for solvers to understand as deadly patterns. In a puzzle with multiple solutions, the above would resolve to a single BUG-Lite or two URs. One of twelve possible BUG-Lites is ...
Code:

 .  ab   . | ac   bd   . | .   cd   .
 .  ab   . | ac   bd   . | .   cd   .
 .  .    . | .    .    . | .   .    .
-----------+-------------+------------
 .  .    . | .    .    . | .   .    .

The other eleven are merely value permutations of the above. One of twelve possible URs is ...
Code:

 .  ab   . | cd   ab   . | .   cd   .
 .  ab   . | cd   ab   . | .   cd   .
 .  .    . | .    .    . | .   .    .
-----------+-------------+------------
 .  .    . | .    .    . | .   .    .

Thanks for checking that one out, Ron. Are you saying you think the (9)r8c3=(1)r8c6 inference is valid, then?

Here's a look at the BUG-Lite breakdown, same cells, same deduction:
Code:
*-----------------------------------------------------------*
 | 4     8     67    | 5     2     79    | 679   1     3     |
 | 5     9     3     | 6     178   18    | 78    4     2     |
 | 67    1     2     | 4     789   3     | 5     678   6789  |
 |-------------------+-------------------+-------------------|
 | 79    3     1     | 789   6     5     | 4     2     789   |
 | 8     2     67    | 1     4     79    | 679   3     5     |
 | 679   4     5     | 3     789   2     | 6789  678   1     |
 |-------------------+-------------------+-------------------|
 | 3    *67   *48    | 2     5    *46+8  | 1     9    *78+6  |
 | 2    *67   *48+9  | 789   1789 *46+18 | 3     5    *78+6  |
 | 1     5     89    | 789   3     68    | 2     678   4     |

Yes, I should have made that clearer.

I used a Type 2 UR (67-8), X-Wing (7), Type 6 UR (18) and XYZ-Wing (679).
