This puzzle can be reduced to a state that I'd previously thought was impossible ... then I read the fine print!

Code:
 +-----------------------+
 | 9 6 4 | . . . | 7 2 . |
 | 2 . . | 1 9 4 | . 6 3 |
 | 5 . 1 | 7 6 2 | 9 . 4 |
 |-------+-------+-------|
 | . 9 2 | . . 6 | . 5 . |
 | . 4 5 | . 7 . | . . . |
 | . 7 8 | 3 . . | . . . |
 |-------+-------+-------|
 | 8 . 6 | . . . | 4 . . |
 | 7 5 . | 4 . . | . 1 . |
 | . 2 9 | . . . | . . . |
 +-----------------------+

Why not just write ... (5)r7c5 = (5-2)r6c5 = (2)r4c4 - (2)r7c4 = (2)r7c9 => r7c9<>5

No names to debate and no "strengths" to confuse people. BTW from where did you pick up the "XY Wing Style" name?

The only think that interest me : the SIS, as in forbidding matrices or logic diagrams (see Allan Barker's), the fundamental basis of all inferences. All other comments are optional !

From here, but without the "X".

That didn't go over very well.

I'd rather it had a name! e-turbot is fine for me. While I'm happy to notate everything as AICs, I still like to feel I am looking for named patterns (for no rational reason).

Fwiw, a similar move to JC's is there after basics for a one-stepper (prior knowledge declared!)..
Code:
(5=3)r7c5 - (3=8)r1c5 - (8=2)r8c5 - r7c4=r7c9 ; r7c9<>5

X-Wing (9).
Potential DP (37) boxes 89. Either killer (r7c8=9 or r7c6 or r9c6=5) leads to r4c7=1 and r7c5=3.
