one of the outtakes from the "Frequent Flyer" production run:
Code: | +-----------+-----------+-----------+
| 4 . . | . . 7 | 5 . 2 |
| . . . | . 4 . | . . . |
| 1 7 6 | . . . | 3 . . |
+-----------+-----------+-----------+
| . . . | 7 . 6 | . 1 . |
| 2 . . | . 3 . | . . 6 |
| . 1 . | 8 . 4 | . . . |
+-----------+-----------+-----------+
| . . 2 | . . . | 1 9 8 |
| . . . | . 6 . | . . . |
| 7 . 8 | 2 . . | . . 4 |
+-----------+-----------+-----------+ |
seems to be a "no stepper". At least I could not find a reasonable step. Not even a naked pair ...
Let's see what the sophisticates can do I am sure there is an almost naked something or some other almost locked thingy hidden somewhere ... |

A non-sophisticates: 2x M-Wing, 2x chain, XY-Chain, and W-Wing. |

Ah, there is still hope for a "reasonable" solution after all ...
Thanks, Danny, for the hints! Seems like the journey is a long one, though.
I arrived at this position after - hm, well, "basics" would be exaggerating - let's just say that I found some some singles:
Code: |
+--------------------------+--------------------------+--------------------------+
| 4 389 39 | 1369 19 7 | 5 68 2 |
| 3589 2 359 | 369 4 39 | 78 678 1 |
| 1 7 6 | 5 8 2 | 3 4 9 |
+--------------------------+--------------------------+--------------------------+
| 3589 3589 3459 | 7 259 6 | 2489 1 35 |
| 2 589 4579 | 19 3 159 | 4789 578 6 |
| 6 1 3579 | 8 259 4 | 279 2357 357 |
+--------------------------+--------------------------+--------------------------+
| 35 6 2 | 4 7 35 | 1 9 8 |
| 359 4 1 | 39 6 8 | 27 2357 357 |
| 7 359 8 | 2 159 1359 | 6 35 4 |
+--------------------------+--------------------------+--------------------------+
|
After some tedious search, I found an AIC
(3)r9c6-(3=9)r2c6-(9=1)r1c5-(1)r9c5=(1)r9c6-(3)r9c6; r9c6<>3
but it didn't look like it would advance the solution in any significant way. Although, now come to think of it, the elimination creates at least two additional strong links, who knows ...
Very curious about those two m-wings (you know I am very partial to m-wings )

From the off there seemed to be an almost-w-wing(19) in shute 2 that looked very promising - but I just could not find a way to make the fin 5 work.. I ended up making use of it in a more roundabout way...
I don't claim sophistication or elegance - but workmanlike!
Code: | s-wing(39) (3)r7c1=r7c6 - (3=9)r8c4 - (9)r8c1=r9c2 ; r9c2<>3
anp(19=5)r5c46 - (5=3)r7c6 - (3=5)r7c1 - (5=9)r9c2 ; r5c2<>9
(5)r5c6=w-wing(19)r5c6,r1c5 - (9=3)r2c6 - r12c4=(3-9)r8c4=r8c1 - (9=5)r9c2 ; r5c2<>5=8 |
I put it in SE and for a 7.2 this seemed hard! |

As Peter mentioned, this puzzle does little to cooperate. Singles are nominal between the advanced steps, and other basics are scarce as well. The people in the Eureka forum would probably love it.
Since others may still be working on this puzzle, I'll only share the M-Wings and not ruin the puzzle for them.
Code: | M-Wing 7B (3=5)r9c8 - r9c56 = (5-3)r7c6 = (3)r7c1 => r9c2<>3
M-Wing 5A (9=3)r2c6 - r12c4 = (3-9)r8c4 = (9)r8c1 => r2c1<>9
