| After an X-Wing (1) I couldn't find any of the usual moves in my limited arsenal. Trying an XY-Chain, I found that r2c2=7 proves r8c2=7; r2c2<>7. |

After the X-wing (1) I found a discontinuous nice loop of 1's and 4's that cracks it:
r8c8 -4- r9c7 =4= r3c7 =1= r2c7 -1- r2c3 =1= r7c3 =4= r8c3 -4- r8c8 => r8c8<>4 |

Would it be possible to post your position at this point? I must have completely lost my ability to read nice loop notation. |

Using keith's after-basics grid above, I see that the nice loop does not work due to the 4s in r56c7. As I recall, I had solved r9c9=2, which constrained the 4's in box 6 to be in c9, exposing a strong link on 4 in r39c7. However I can no longer figure out how I solved r9c9=2. I suspect it was a late-night clerical error in pencil marks, which renders my nice loop invalid, despite having led to solving the puzzle.  How embarrassing! |

| There is an X-Wing on <8> that leads to a Naked Quad, but my solver still needed a 5-cell XY-Chain to finish the puzzle. |
