Messier and less satisfying than I prefer (I got lazy and didn't check for chains or M-Wings).

Potential 49-19-14 DP in r258c23. Possibilities r2c23=2, r5c2=6, r8c23=2 yield common outcome r6c56=48.

Another solution is a

AUR(25)r45c67[(8)r5c7=(3)r5c6]-(3=2=4=8)r576c5-r6c6=r1c6-r1c78=r2c8; -8r5c8

Marty,

I do not understand your statement that the common outcome is r6c56=48; this is already the condition after basics.

I screw up basics on a huge number of puzzles. Dan's grid shows the 48 pairs, but maybe he copied my grid. At any rate, I'm not seeing how the eliminations get made.

Dan, you overestimate me. Finesse doesn't work, I need to be hit over the head.

I'm stuck here, which is somewhat different from my original grid.

Well, if you guys would like to let me in on the secret, I'd appreciate it. I tried it again with pencil and paper and end up with the same grid I posted originally, with r6c56 not solved. Is this grid invalid too?

Thank you Dan. However, Ted noted that r6c56 were solved after basics and I still don't see how to get there. Question

I haven't been following the discussion, but this is the after basics grid:
Code:
+----------------+----------------+----------------+
| 16   5    7    | 4    1238 238  | 28   268  9    |
| 3    249  249  | 25   258  6    | 7    248  1    |
| 8    1246 124  | 9    127  27   | 3    246  5    |
+----------------+----------------+----------------+
| 4    8    3    | 6    9    25   | 25   1    7    |
| 16   169  19   | 7    23   235  | 258  28   4    |
| 2    7    5    | 1    48   48   | 6    9    3    |
+----------------+----------------+----------------+
| 7    234  6    | 23   24   9    | 1    5    8    |
| 5    124  124  | 8    2467 247  | 9    3    26   |
| 9    23   8    | 235  256  1    | 4    7    26   |
+----------------+----------------+----------------+

There are two URs: 25 and 26.
