As Early Earl (for those who like to be taken back a few years)
might have said- same old, same old (select box to see):
Quote: | 124 XY-Wing pivot r3c2 is a one-stepper |
A lot of basics - hidden pairs, quads etc to get there, though.

"A lot of basics - hidden pairs, quads etc to get there, though."
and for that reason it's not a "same old, same old" to me.
My pathway was quite different. I didn't find all the basics. Indeed, I made only one fruitful observation, which in my private terminology is "scan 3 box 6 to box 3, and then top boxes" so that box 1 cell 4 can't be 3. I missed the much easier inspection of row 1 that shows where its 3 has to be!
Still, what I did then find was an xyZ wing 249 pivot r3c1 which also leads to a one step solution.
And I was trying to solve this puzzle in time to be the first to post. I used to compete occasionally with Early Earl. I have a time-zone advantage over almost everyone, but to make use of it I have to work at a puzzle in the wee hours. This time, however, I lost energy and dozed off. |

I couldn't find the way quickly and decided to doze off as RobertRattley
I expect to be back as early as possible in the next puzzle Watch out! |

I screwed up the basics, but not fatally and used the XYZ-Wing.
From here on, I think Early Earl ought to be known as EČ. |
