Could not find an elegant solve. My logic was that if r5c3 ==3,
then r5c4 <>2 so R4c4=2. And if r5c3 ==3 and thus <>1, then c1r12 <> 1, and there is no value possible for r4c1.
R5c3 <>3 means r6c1 =3, from there everything falls out.

Dave, the May 9 puzzle is an H, not VH.

This is your grid, aligned. (There's an article in the Site Help sub-forum on aligning a grid).

Code:
+------------------+---------------+-----------------+
| 179  45789 14578 | 1489 6   2    | 4578  1478  3   |
| 179  2     14578 | 1489 3   1458 | 6     1478  145 |
| 6    3     1458  | 148  158 7    | 2458  1248  9   |
+------------------+---------------+-----------------+
| 279  4579  2457  | 248  58  3    | 1     2489  6   |
| 8    45    12345 | 1246 9   1456 | 245   234   7   |
| 1239 459   6     | 7    158 1458 | 24589 23489 245 |
+------------------+---------------+-----------------+
| 4    1     23    | 5    7   9    | 23    6     8   |
| 23   678   9     | 168  4   168  | 237   5     12  |
| 5    678   78    | 3    2   168  | 479   1479  14  |
+------------------+---------------+-----------------+

I hope I got it right. The first thing is to note that there's a quint in box 4. After making the eliminations therefrom I don't know how far that goes toward solving, but one step at a time.

Look for something hidden in block 4 for solution

Thanks Marty and Arki. Now that it's pointed out it's plain as day. The fact that only two cells in block 4 can be 1 or 3 does solve it.

And next time I'll align. I started to this time but decided I was making it worse. I think I need a new brand of coffee.
